EMDR is an intervention to help individuals who are survivors of any kind of traumatic event, abuse, natural disasters, accidents, personal crisis or tragedy, or war.
EMDR therapy allows the individual to process the traumatic memory so that it becomes less upsetting.
The procedure includes facilitation of bilateral stimulation (both sides of brain actively stimulated and communicating with one another) through use of eye movement/tappers.
The procedure can help individuals resolve these negative experiences and body memories, and to maintain a more positive self-concept, both in relation to the trauma, and overall.
